Mechanisms for a peaceful slumber exists somewhere between sleeping and waking. Processed using a homemade caffeine-based developer and further manipulated using physical and digital methods, it conveys the mind’s gentle attempts to piece together a disjointed narrative, and hold on to images that are slowly dissolving. Objects and landscapes are generated in snippets, with the reality of the photographic image called into question in the same way those visuals that are left behind when we wake are. Everything is hazy and grainy and not quite there - but we remember parts of it, and we can try and put those parts back together again to tell the story. Sequenced to form the structure of a single night, the viewer follows a cyclical narrative that mimics the various stages of the sleep cycle.
